Mercedes Benz 540K – Fascination, luxury and elegance
The Mercedes Benz 540K (type W24), is one of the most admired and most expensive classic cars in existence. The best ones can reach the figure of 10 million dollars. A classic that began to be marketed between 1936 and 1940.
Best of Show 2021 edition
In the 2021 edition of the Concours d’Elegance, the highlight of the event was the Mercedes Benz 540K Blue Goose. Although its initial owner was Ignacio Barraquer, a well-known Catalan ophthalmologist, in 2003 they got rid of it and it was the Keller family who acquired it at a millionaire price. These collectors restored it and took it to all kinds of competitions.
The biggest prize he got was precisely in 2021, remaining as “Best of Show”. The winner of this edition was this glamorous vehicle, of which only 6 units were made in Germany. To this day, only this specimen survives.
This improved model of the Mercedes Benz 500K, increased its displacement to 5.4 liters, and its power ranged between 115 hp and 180 hp. It was available with all kinds of bodies, on which convertibles, coupes and even limousines stood out.
Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster from Sindelfingen
The Mercedes Benz 540 Special Roadster was the great protagonist of the 30th Paris Motor Show in 1936, prior to World War II. A superb body, with a 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that produced up to 180 hp, reaching 177 km/h.
Only 25 units of this particular model were built, and it was the last Mercedes Benz 540K. Its five meters in length accommodated 2 passengers.
This model went up for auction in January 2016 after having belonged to a private collection since 1989, and was purchased for $9,900,000, a collection record for this model.
